Are you planning on committing serial manslaughter with your sword?
I doubt it.
Swords are NOT effective self-defense weapons, unlike pocketknives or handguns. Swords are too bulky, too obvious to a potential attacker, and too difficult to use. A criminal who was actually serious about hurting you would probably respond to a sword by reaching for his 9mm and shooting you in the chest.
There is no practical use for a sword in modern times except as a display item, and that being the case, the quality of the steel matters not at all. Buying a sword made of "quality steel" might have mattered 600 years ago when guns didn’t exist. In fact i usually recommend people who buy swords as collector’s items to deliberately blunt the edges with a grinder. Otherwise they’re a legal liability issue. They’re especially dangerous to young children who imagine them to be pretend playthings.
People who train in traditional schools of Kendo (the art or Japanese swordsmanship) generally are not allowed to TOUCH a real steel katana until they have studied for many years. Not until they have proven beyond a doubt their skills and experience, respect, self-discipline, and unquestioning dedication to the art. Even then steel swords are only used for training and demonstration purposes. For bouts and competitions against other human beings bamboo practice swords are always used.
To even bring up the idea of using a sword in bloodlust or anger in such circles would be considered personally very shameful. Despite Japan’s history, studying traditional swordsmanship is considered a privilege and a matter of great responsibility. Japan has very strict laws about gun control and weapons. Therefore someone who trains and dedicates themselves to swordsmanship must be counted upon to not use their deadly skills except in the very last defense of life. Someone who did not take such responsibility seriously would be considered a criminal, untrustworthy, and without personal honor. In other words, a danger to themselves and to society.
You may want to think twice about it since it may be radio active
The best sword steel isn’t necessarily “Japanese steel” What you really need is a custom sword made of Modern steel. As good as original antiques are, they are impossible to replace and kind of a shame to mess up a piece of history.
Modern smelting process can alloys can make an incredible blade for you Even better than the Hi Carbon steel blades. Better than both the antiques and any of the mass produced stuff available on the internet.
I am a custom maker and not to toot my own horn I make some of the toughest and strongest sword that can be made. Some of the blades I have made have accomplished some pretty incredible cuts
Shoot me an email and we can talk about your new style of swordsmanship and the characteristics of the sword you need
